Srinagar October 01 (KNS) : Nageen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) a prominent environmental watchdog NGO today held a Tree Management Drive at Khushalsur (Sazgaripora side).
Issuing the statement, NLCO President Manzoor Wangnoo said that “The tree management in Khushalsur is of great importance as we intend reclaim the waterbody trapped under the trees which besides obstructing navigation & hindering flow of water, is offering a breeding ground to the land mafia and encroachers”.
“Much of the land and waterbody which if cleansed and dredged could be pivotal in restoration the navigation of the urban lake”, Wangnoo added.
It is pertinent to mention that NLCO under its flagship community led initiative “Mission Ehsaas” is cleaning the Khushalsur and much of the waterbody has been retrieved. NLCO has won applauds from all quarters for their tireless efforts.
“During the tree management today, it took us many hours to persuade and counsel the dwellers to voluntarily manage their trees for the welfare of the greater good”, Present NLCO said.
President NLCO while thanking Tehsildar Waqf Board stated that “We express our gratitude to Tehsildar Sahib for doing a commendable job today in getting the issues addressed on spot in getting the trees managed on the Waqf land”.
Wangnoo also added that, “The tree management drive will go a long way in helping the waterbody to be retrieved and restored besides preventing land encroachers to fill the waterbody.”
