Srinagar, Sep 29 (KNS): Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo and SSP Srinagar Dr G V Sundeep Chakravarthy reviewed the district’s anti-narcotics strategy on Monday, stressing coordinated enforcement, prevention and rehabilitation measures to curb drug trafficking and substance abuse.

The directions were issued during a meeting of the District-Level NCORD Committee chaired by Labroo at the DC Office here.

The meeting reviewed enforcement against drug trafficking, implementation of the Common SOP for action against accused persons, the 100 Weeks Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, regulation of pharmaceutical drugs and measures to strengthen treatment and rehabilitation facilities.

Labroo called for intensified coordination among stakeholder departments and stressed the need to strengthen counselling, follow-up and aftercare mechanisms for drug victims.

He also reviewed implementation of the rehabilitation policy being undertaken on a pilot basis in select districts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar, and called for proper enrolment and tracking of rehabilitation cases to ensure timely interventions and monitoring.

The meeting was informed that around 209 FIRs have been registered in connection with narcotics-related activities and about 305 alleged drug peddlers arrested during the ongoing crackdown.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Authorities have attached 19 movable and 102 immovable properties worth more than Rs 132 crore linked to drug traffickers, while 163 bank accounts have been frozen following financial investigations.

Besides, 103 driving licences and 59 vehicle Registration Certificates have been suspended for violations linked to narcotics-related activities.

The committee was also informed that around 418.15 kanals of illegal opium and poppy cultivation had been destroyed during the current year.

The DC directed departments to ensure effective implementation of the 100 Weeks Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, with sustained awareness and preventive interventions, particularly among youth and vulnerable sections.

SSP Srinagar stressed the need for enhanced vigilance, stronger inter-departmental coordination and timely sharing of information to prevent the spread of drug abuse and protect the younger generation.

The meeting was attended by senior officers from the district administration, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, police, education, social welfare, drug control, excise, transport and other stakeholder departments.(KNS)
