Calls for Sustained Conservation of Khushalsar–Gilsar

The Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), under the chairmanship of Manzoor Wangnoo, extends deep appreciation to the Lakes Conservation & Management Authority (LCMA) for its efforts during the Sewa Parv 2025 initiative, which witnessed significant cleaning operations at Khushalsar.

The clean-up drive has not only brought visible improvement but also rekindled hope for the revival of this ecologically important water body. NLCO strongly believes that such interventions must now be sustained in a systematic and proportionate manner.

In this regard, NLCO urges that the restoration process be immediately extended to Gilsar Lake at the earliest as both Khushalsar and Gilsar are interconnected water systems. A dedicated, sequential, and scientific approach beginning from Gilsar is vital to ensure lasting results and ecological balance.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Furthermore, NLCO appeals for the creation of a dedicated subdivision within LCMA specifically for the conservation, rejuvenation, and monitoring of Khushalsar–Gilsar. Such an institutional mechanism will not only provide continuity but also bring focus, accountability, and resources to safeguard these fragile ecosystems.

“While one-time drives bring attention, true success lies in continuity and institutional commitment. A dedicated wing for Khushalsar–Gilsar within LCMA is the need of the hour,” said Wangnoo.

NLCO reaffirms its commitment to extend all possible support, community mobilisation, awareness, and advocacy to complement the government’s efforts in ensuring that Khushalsar–Gilsar become a success story of ecological restoration in Srinagar.(KNS)
