Srinagar, Feb 19 (KNS): A complete is being observed in Nishat area of Srinagar on Friday against Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) for not allowing the residents to raise their buildings.
Shops and business establishments in Nishat area are closed while public transport was off the roads.
A local while talking to KNS said that the LAWDA officials are not allowing them to raise their buildings in the area due to which they observed shutdown against the “deplorable behavior” of authorities.
They said that they will also hold protest rally against the department after Friday congregational prayers.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“Despite several plead, the authority’s reluctance forced us to observe shutdown. We will take streets if our demands will not be redressed,” they said.
Vice-Chairman (VC), LAWDA, Sarmad Hafeez told KNS that they won’t allow anyone to raise their buildings in the non-permissible zone. “High Court has ordered us to demolish the buildings constructed within the prohibited areas but some miscreants resist the officials for conducting the process, which is the only cause behind the protests,” Hafeez said.
He said that permission will be granted to only genuine cases. (KNS)
