Srinagar, Mar 02 (KNS): Police on Thursday used batons to disperse the National Health Mission Employees Association (NHMEA) after they tried to march towards the commercial Hub Lal Chowk.
The protesters had earlier pegged temporary tent inside the Srinagar’s Press Enclave and had planned to stage 72-hour-long protest against the government for ‘failing to regularize them’.
However, the protesters later tried to march towards Lal Chowk during which police used batons to foil their protest march.
Earlier, the protesters including men and women assembled inside the temporary tent at Press Enclave and were chanting slogans like ‘we want justice’.
They were demanding immediate fulfillment of their demands of regularization.
Talking to KNS, Abdul Rouf, spokesman of the Union said, “We had planned to stage 72-hour-long strike against the government for failing to regularize the employees who are serving the department from past several years.”
He said that the government has failed to fulfill their demands thereby forcing them to take streets against them.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“We appeal the government to fulfill our demands as soon as possible so that the employees working in the department from past several years could feel a sigh of relief,” he said.
Threatening to launch intense agitation against the government, Rouf said, “We will stage intense strike against the government in case they failed to fulfill their demands. We will take extreme step for which the government will be held responsible.”
Meanwhile, the protesters later tried to march towards Srinagar’s Lal Chowk to press for their demands.
However, as soon as the protesters tried to march, police intercepted them and used batons to foil their attempt.
The police personnel also damaged their temporary tent.
Notably, the NHM employees are on strike from Wednesday morning to press the government over their demands. (KNS)
