NGO Dot ing organizes panel discussion on Mental Health

Jammu, January 24:(KNS) NGO Dot ing today organized a Panel discussion programme on Mental Health at Police Conference Hall in DPL, Jammu. The panel discussion was conducted by Ms Alina Mir.

 

The panelists, Dr. S.P.Verma, recipient of the Padma Shri Award, and Head of Gandhi Global Family, Dr. Manisha Kohli, Clinical psychologist, associate professor with the department of higher education, Dr. Varun Sharma, HOD Philosophy, Government PG College Ghandi Nagar and Mr. Romesh Head of guidance and counseling cell, DSEJ shared their valuable thoughts and reflected their experiences on the topic. The panelists also answered the questions raised by the audience during the programme. 

 

The topic of the discussion essentially was mental health in times of covid. Many reports and researches have shown that the lockdown has only caused a decrease in the general mental health. Abuses and violence in households specifically has increased, which has only caused a major mental health degradation in the youth of today. With everything shifting to an online platforms the problems are all the more critical. The panel discussion was held with an objective of raising awareness about the above states fact and also provide the youth with vairoon suggestions of how to cope with the present situation. Dr. Manisha being a psychologist threw light on the various ways we can help ourselves, and be our own counsellors in times of need. Mr. Romesh and Dr. Varun on the other hand elaborated on the need of development of educational institutes and their structure in terms of counselling and mental health sensitivity. Mr. S P Sharma sir then talked about the various methods that Gandhi ji had used to help himself and the people around him at such crucial times like the independence struggle of our country and pointed that the growth of an individual and the soul leads to a better psychological as well physical health. 

 

Mr Arsh Mir in his address thanked all the panelists, team of Dot ing, journalists and the audience for making the function a success. He said that Dot.ING, works as a gen z organisation trying to inculcate the want to work towards a better tomorrow in the youth. He talked about how the young generation has the highest responsibility to fight for a better tomorrow, tackling all the global issues that they are facing. He also said that his belief in the power of his generation, is what drives this organisation, and consequently released their movement- ACT47. ACT47 is a movement based on his idea that the future of the youth will be built by the youth, and their legacy wont be a legacy of the multitudes of issues including mental health stigma, polarization, global warming and much more.

 

 Mudabbir Latifi in his welcome address thanked the Panelists and the audience for gracing the function. He said that Dot ing provides a dynamic mental health community for young teens. He said that Dot ing organized its first of its kind, youth fest to raise money for charity. Further, Dot ing released a dynamic website consisting of four initiatives and added that this website launch, and mental health panel discussion represents the work the Dot ing have done since the past few months. 

 

Mr Dhairya Choudhary presented the vote of thanks to everyone who have been working towards the same cause as ours " Empowering The youth, 'By the youth for the youth' " , he gladly expressed gratitude towards the panelists and assured everyone that the NGO is determined to continue working on its mission of helping the youth; transforming society and expanding the mission further more and moving forward on the road named Act 47 .
