Srinagar, Apr 1 (KNS): National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Wednesday defended the private member’s bill on land grants, saying it aims to provide legal clarity to those who have lawfully acquired land, while accusing the BJP and PDP of misleading the public.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) outside the assembly MLA Zadibal said the bill was admitted in the Assembly without initial opposition, but later drew criticism from both parties.
“Today it has been proved that BJP and PDP are alike. When the bill was admitted, neither of them objected,” he said.
He alleged that Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma faced pressure to react, while PDP leaders raised unrelated issues.
He said the legislation seeks to provide legal sanctity to such holdings and establish a framework for future decisions, including allocation of land to the landless.
“This is a significant bill. It is not about encroachments. We are not talking about those who have illegally occupied land, but those who have acquired it through legal means,” he added.
MLA Zadibal accused sections of the opposition of attempting to confuse the issue by linking it to unrelated matters such as daily wagers.
The private member’s bill, introduced earlier in the Assembly, seeks to address issues arising from the Jammu and Kashmir Land Grants Rules, 2022, including provisions related to lease renewals and legal status of land held by existing occupants.(KNS)
