Srinagar, Dec 31 (KNS): National Conference on Saturday expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Party Stalwart, Former City Father and sitting MLC, Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi who passed away in New Delhi after a brief bout of illness. National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah while expressing profound sorrow over Oberoi’s demise paid glowing tributes to the departed leader and extended their heartfelt condolences to his family.
Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi – a party stalwart, was a two-time City Administrator – once under Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and once during the tenure of Dr. Farooq Abdullah as the Chief Minister of the State and was a former head of the Chamber of Commerce. A sitting MLC, Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi was also the Chief Polling Agent of National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah during his Parliamentary Election in 1999. Known for his unwavering loyalty and commitment to the cause of National Conference, Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi contributed immensely to his party and to the welfare and progress of the State.
In a message, NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah said Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi’s demise was a personal loss to him and an irreparable loss to the party. “Oberoi Sahab was a role model to many as his loyalty and commitment was unquestionable. In his demise the party has lost a tall stalwart whose contributions will be remembered for a long time to come. I pay my respects to him and my heart goes out to his family in this hour of loss and grief”, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said.
NC Working President Omar Abdullah, in his message, expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi and extended heartfelt condolences to his family. NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar presided over a condolence meeting called to condole the demise of Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi at National Conference Headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha Complex in Srinagar. The NC General Secretary said the entire party shared the sorrow and grief of Oberoi’s demise and would remember him fondly for his guidance, affection and honesty. “Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi was a senior stalwart of the party and one of the most senior legislators in the State. In his demise the party has lost an invaluable asset and the State has lost a selfless, dedicated and honest leader”, Sagar said. The condolence meeting was also attended by YNC Provincial President Salman Ali Sagar, Provincial Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, Block Presidents from Srinagar, Ex-corporators, Party Delegates and activists.
NC Provincial President Kashmir Nasir Aslam Wani has also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of party stalwart and sitting MLC Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi. “Oberoi Sahab will be missed badly by all of us. His affection, loyalty and mentorship will be remembered with fondness by all of us. His contributions to the party are enormous and his name will be written in golden letters while recollecting the work done by National Conference for the welfare of the State”, the NC Provincial President said.
