NC exhibits cultural, linguistic and religious diversity: Dr Faooq Abdullah

Srinagar, Mar 17 (KNS): National Conference (NC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said the party has long been synonymous with the aspirations of the people of J&K and that it exhibits the cultural, linguistic and religious diversity of J&K.

According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), scores of delegations from across Kashmir called on NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah at his residence to greet him on his release. The delegations comprising of workers, party functionaries, delegates and civil society groups who called on party president had come from Qazigund, Amirakadal, Soura, Shahar e Khas, Ganderbal.

Addressing the delegations, NC president thanked all those who had thronged his residence after hearing the news of his release. While extolling the enthusiasm of party functionaries, workers and others he said, “NC is a symbolic of J&K personality, it mirrors the cultural diversity of J&K. It is the unflinching faith of people in us that keeps us going for decades. The way our workers, functionaries have been upholding the party flag high in the most trying times is commendable. We have been lending voice to people irrespective of their religion, region and creed. Our idea of politics is participatory, it puts people first,” adding, “I am overwhelmed to see the enthusiasm of our workers. Our unity unnerves our opponents.”

Expressing gratitude to the visiting delegations, Abdullah said that he is appreciative of the love and affection that he has received from people. “I express my gratitude to all who prayed for me. I am overwhelmed with the support we have received from the people. The enthusiasm of workers and delegates is indeed elevating,” he said.

Among others who were present on the occasion include Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, Syed Tauqeer, M Y Taing, Pirzada Firoz Ahmad Shah, Qaisar Jalali, and Dr Syed. (KNS)

Lok Sabha: Akbar Lone raises issue of release of detainees

Srinagar, Mar 17 (KNS): National Conference senior leader and MP from Baramulla constituency Muhammad Akbar Lone on Tuesday raised the issue of release of detainees languishing in prisons in and outside J&K.

According to statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), while speaking in Lok Sabha, Lone said, “Majority of people who are languishing in jails outside J&K belong to poorer families who are worried for their safety due to economic constraints.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Lone said, “Such families cannot visit outside J&K to meet their dear ones. The Corona sprawl is also one of the reasons they cannot think of moving outside home. I therefore impress upon the home minister to ensure release of all detainees without any delay. Any further delay will push the families of those languishing in jails to undue trepidation. Moreover there can be no total redemption of situation unless all detainees are released forthwith”. (KNS)

Lok Sabha: Masoodi seek ‘Comprehensive Rehabilitation Package” for tourism industry

Srinagar, Mar 17 (KNS): National Conference (NC) MP from south Kashmir (Retd) Jutice Hasnain Masoodi on Tuesday while speaking in Lok Sabha sought comprehensive economic package for rehabilitating tourism industry in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), MP Masoodi said the tourism industry in J&K in particular the Valley has suffered major reverses due to the tumultuous situation and unremitting internet blockage for over seven months.

“Tourism industry in J&K is one of the most critical sectors that provide employment to lakhs of people who are associated with it. The people associated with tourism sector are living hand to mouth. The tumultuous situation in J&K in particular the valley has rendered all the people associated with it hopeless and destitute. So far the tourism industry has suffered from Rs 20,000 crore losses according to various estimations emanating from the industry and other sources. The people associated with the trade have set their eyes on the government for necessary succor to help them stand back on their feet,” he said adding, “Railways could play a pivotal role in bringing various tourist destinations on the tourism map of India. The government is already done with the survey of rail routes to other areas, yet nothing substantial is being done to visualize the dream of having major tourist destinations of state on national railway map.”.

He also sought railway link from Jammu to Poonch, Qazigund to Pahalgam and Baramulla to Lolab.

Meanwhile scores of families whose kith and kin have been detained in and outside J&K on Tuesday met Srinagar District President Peer Afaq. He assured the affected families that he will raise the issue at appropriate forms. (KNS)
