Srinagar, June 10 (KNS): Government Friday said that it will take “corrective measures” wherever required in the new advertisement policy after uproar by Opposition parties who demanded its rollback.
The opposition leaders said that media should not be threatened by the government. The opposition blamed the government that it is “curbing freedom of press” by the new policy.
“There is a political agenda behind the new policy to curb press freedom,” NC legislator from Eidgah Mubarak Gul said in the Lower House during Question Hour.
The issue was raised by Congress Legislative Party leader and MLA Leh Nawang Rigzin Jora when he said that government “implemented” the advertisement policy to “control” journalism in the state.
“The new policy should be rolled back by the government if journalists are demanding it,” Jora said, adding, “My appeal to the government is don’t threaten the media.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”
Accusations by the government created verbal spats between ministers and legislators of the opposition.
The issue was raised by NC senior leader and MLA from Nagrota Devender Singh Rana in a written question which was replied by Naeem Akhtar.
Meanwhile, Minister for Education and government spokesman Naeem Akhtar said that the government will take corrective measures wherever necessary in the new advertisement policy.
“We are considering all the inputs which people have given about the new policy,” Akhtar said.
However, unconvinced Akhtar’s reply that he read from the starred question, Mubarak Gul shouted back to the minister which created verbal spat between them.
“It was framed during Governor Rule. It is an insinuation to add political element to it,” Akhtar said. (KNS)
