Seek restoration of utility services

Poonch, Feb 21 (KNS): A delegation of National Conference functionaries of the border Poonch district on Tuesday called on senior officers of the district administration and sought immediate restoration of snow damaged infrastructure and redressal of accumulated problems of the people.
Led by Provincial Youth National Conference President Ajaz Jan also sought immediate financial assistance and compensation to the victims of border shelling, saying no ex-gratia has been paid to the kin of those killed during skirmishes. “There is need to heal the wounds of sufferers and the government cannot abdicate its responsibility in this regard”, they added.
The deputation also reiterated the demand of delimitation of Panchayats and their wards through an independent and impartial Delimitation Commission headed by a retired High Court Judge in a time bound manner and described the ongoing exercise a sham and blot on democracy.
Expressing concern over erratic power supply and scarce drinking water across the district, the delegation urged the concerned to look into these problems on urgent basis, especially in hilly and remote areas, so that some sort of respite is being provided to the people during the ongoing harsh winter season.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThey said some of the snow-bound and landlocked villages are without electricity for months, which speaks of the callousness of the government.
The district officers assured that all the issues raised would be earnestly examined at appropriate levels and immediate necessary taken.
Jan, meanwhile, castigated the PDP-BJP government for its nonchalant attitude and lack of responsibility due to which the sufferings of people have increased manifold. He said that the developmental effort set in motion during the tenure of Omar Abdullah as Chief Minister has been negated by the anti-people dispensation. (KNS)
