NATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY : Amar Singh College organises Webinar 

Srinagar January 24:(KNS) The National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on 24 January, to make the girl child of the country aware of their rights. Along with the daughters of the country, all the people have to be made aware about the discrimination faced by the girl child in the society. This year to join the celebration of the Girl Child, the NSS units, in collaboration with the College Cultural Committee and Seminars and Debates Committee of Amar Singh College organised a One-Day Students’ Webinar to commemorate this historic day as part of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav. The event was presided over by the Chief Patron and Honourable Vice Chancellor Cluster University Srinagar, Prof. Dr. Qayyum Husain, and the Chief Guest on the occasion was Dr. Musavir Ahmad (KAS), Divisional NSS Programme Coordinator, University of Kashmir, Empaneled Training Institute. 
 
The programme began with a formal welcome address by the Principal and Programme Director, Prof. Bashir Ahmad Rather who in his inaugural welcome address deliberated upon the need to create a free and equal society and nation based upon inclusion. While hailing the efforts of the NSS Volunteers of the college, Prof. Rather assured that the College will always act with commitment towards social issues and nation building.
 
In the presidential address, the Honourable Vice Chancellor Cluster University Srinagar, Prof. Dr. Qayyum Husain, congratulated the Principal, faculty and students of the College for organsing an event of great social significance. He reiterated his support and commitment to provide all possible help and assistance in bringing forward better opportunities for the girls especially, by focusing on making them self-reliant and financially independent. Prof. Dr. Qayyum also informed the participants and students that the Cluster University Srinagar is making all possible efforts in implementing the NEP 2020 which focuses on skill development and vocational training to the students to make them employable and hence self reliant. 
 
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Musavir Ahmad, the Chief Guest of the webinar, focused on two important aspects of the National Girl Child Day celebrations- Rights and Abuse. While women and girls today have the freedom and equal opportunities vis a vis education, professions, etc, yet they are left out in the the right of registering their opinions in decision making. It is towards this that we all have to work. Also, speaking about the hidden social menace of girl child abuse, Dr. Musavir, shared his experiences and expertise regarding this growing mammoth social issue that needs to be addresses. 
During the Technical Sessions, four presentations were given by the NSS Volunteers/students namely, Ms Simrandeep Kuar, Ms. Fiza Nazir , Ms. Tahleel Bilal and Ms. Atufa who gave their respective perspectives on the various dimensions of Girl’s rights and abuse including lack of nutrition, education, social acceptance, discrimination, female infanticide, and other grave concerns that women and girls face in our societies. 

Also, presented during the end of the technical sessions was a cultural collaboration by NSS Volunteers Falak Yousuf, Arshi Yaqoob, Madeeha Fayaz, Syed Darakshan Anjum, Tehleel Bilal, Sadiya Ishtiyaq, Minsha Shakeel, Sheikh Mehak, Atufa and Syed Zohra, who presented their rendition of the song on Women’s Emancipation “Bekhauff Azad”. 
 
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Student Volunteer, Ms. Arshi Yaqoob. The programme was coordinated by the NSS Volunteers and Program Officers of Amar Singh College, and the technical support was provided by Dr. Owais Shafi Head Department of Computer Applications and Shuaeb Mohammad, NSS Volunteer.
