Srinagar, Oct 19 (KNS): National Confederation of Dalit Organisations ( NACDOR), under its National Campaign on Nutrition for Dignity (NCND), organised a state level consultation on ‘Nutrition issues inJammu & Kashmir’ Monday at a hotel here.
A nutrition report card and status report on nutrition in J&K was also released during this consultation. Experts, Social organisations, NGOs and social activists/medical and nutrition experts from different districts of Jammu & Kashmir participated and shared their suggestions to address malnutrition in the state.
The speakers highlighted the gap between the sanctioned posts and appointed staff at various levels inthe ICDS programme is hampering the performance of the programme. Unsafe disposal of child’s stool, low level of mothers’ education, lack of toilets, low awareness on exclusive breastfeeding for first six months, low levels of iodised salt utilisation, low levels of iron rich food utilisation, or provision of vitamin A supplements etc are some important factors that are adversely affecting the nutrition security of weaker sections.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
At this consultation Hashmat Ali Mission Director ICDS, J&K was the chief guest, who spoke about various schemes of ICDS in detail and also the need of the community to take up ownership and commitment towards supporting and ensuring proper implementation of the nutrition schemes at ground level.
The Participants formed a campaign committee in the state and decided to collectively work for the nutrition security of the vulnerable communities through awareness building, behaviour change, bridging the gap between the communities and the government programmes and providing regular feedback to the state governments on the ways to eradicate malnutrition.
