Srinagar, June 19 (KNS): J&K Awami National Conference senior vice-president Muzaffar Shah has filed a suit in Srinagar court seeking compensation of 10 crore from JK administration over his eight month “illegal and unconstitutional” house detention.
Shah has filed the petition in District and Sessions Court Srinagar arguing that the government had “illegally and unconstitutionally” kept him under house arrest for 8 months after abrogation of Article 370.
ANC spokesperson, in a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that Shah has filed the case in the court of against the state administration and senior officials of the police and their subordinates, seeking compensation of Rs 10 crore.
He said that the government had placed mainstream leaders either under house detention or in government designated sub-jails after abrogation of Article 370.
The statement read that BJP at the Center violated legitimate constitutional, legal and fundamental human rights of the people of the state by removing the constitutional status of J&K.
It reads that ANC filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the house detention to which the court directed them to file petitions in the competent court.
It added that accordingly, the petitioner on the authority of the court, filed a case, claiming compensation of Rs 10 crore. (KNS)
