Muslims help perform last rites of Hindu man in Kulgam

Kulgam Mar 31(KNS): In a heartwarming display of communal harmony, a Muslim community in south Kashmir's Kulgam district helped perform the last rites of a Hindu man who passed away on Friday.

An official said that Balbir Singh, a 55-year-old man who worked in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), died of a cardiac arrest at his home in the Karkan area of Kulgam.

Balbir was on leave from his post in Amritsar to attend the first death anniversary of his brother who was killed by militants last year.

Balbir's family was the only Hindu Rajput family residing in the village, and their neighbours from the Muslim community stepped forward to help perform the last rites.

They shouldered Balbir's coffin and arranged wood for the cremation, providing all the necessary support to the grieving family.

Mohammad Ayoob, a local resident, said, "He was one of us. We never thought of him as a Rajput Hindu. We arranged everything needed for the cremation." This gesture of unity and solidarity goes beyond religious boundaries and sets a beautiful example of communal harmony.

The heartening display of unity and compassion in the face of tragedy highlights the true spirit of humanity, where people come together to support one another, regardless of their religious beliefs.(KNS)
