Mughal Road Reopens After Snow Cleared; Uri Highway Restoration Underway

Srinagar, Oct 15 (KNS):  The Mughal Road, which was closed following the season’s first snowfall, was reopened to traffic on Thursday after snow clearance operations were completed, officials said. In north Kashmir, restoration work began on the Uri National Highway after a landslide triggered by heavy rains brought massive boulders onto the road, disrupting vehicular movement.

A senior traffic officer told News Agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) the snow clearance operation on the Mughal Road had been completed and the route was now motorable. Motorists have been advised to drive cautiously due to slippery road conditions.

Meanwhile, the Uri National Highway was blocked on Wednesday evening after heavy rains triggered a landslide, causing massive boulders to roll down the mountainside and obstruct the road.

Restoration work has begun, with men and machinery engaged in removing the boulders and debris, officials said. Efforts are underway to restore connectivity at the earliest.

The clearance operations are aimed at resuming traffic on the affected stretches and ensuring the movement of commuters. (KNS)
