Mughal road reopens, Bandipora-Gurez road partially restored

NH-44, Zojila and Sinthan routes remain open under restrictions

Srinagar, Oct 15 (KNS): The Mughal Road was reopened for vehicular movement on Thursday following snow clearance, while the Bandipora-Gurez road was partially restored, with traffic permitted only from Bandipora towards Gurez, officials said.

A senior official of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the Bandipora-Gurez road had been reopened for vehicles travelling from Bandipora to Gurez after snow clearance operations.

The official, however, said traffic from Gurez towards Bandipora had not yet been permitted.

The road had been affected by fresh snowfall at Razdan Pass and adjoining higher reaches, disrupting connectivity with the border valley.

Meanwhile, the Mughal Road, connecting Shopian with Poonch and Rajouri districts, was reopened following snow clearance near Pir Ki Gali.

Officials said vehicular movement had been restored, although motorists were advised to exercise caution due to slippery road conditions.

On the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), traffic was permitted in both directions, subject to favourable weather and road conditions.

Traffic police advised commuters to exercise caution along vulnerable stretches between Ramban and Banihal, where shooting stones, uneven road surfaces and ongoing construction work could affect movement.

Similarly, light motor vehicles were permitted on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road through Zojila under regulated timings, subject to weather conditions and clearance from the concerned agencies.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

On the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road, light motor vehicles were also allowed in both directions during prescribed hours.

According to the traffic advisory, vehicles travelling from Parana towards Anantnag were permitted between 8 am and 4 pm, while movement from Daksum towards Kishtwar was allowed between 9 am and 4 pm.

On the Mughal Road, light motor vehicles and heavy vehicles with up to 10 tyres were permitted between 7 am and 6 pm, subject to road conditions.

Meanwhile, the Uri highway was affected by a landslide following heavy rainfall, with debris and boulders obstructing vehicular movement. Clearance operations were undertaken, although complete restoration could not be independently confirmed by Thursday evening.

The Meteorological Department has forecast an improvement in weather conditions from Friday, with generally dry weather expected across Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days.

Traffic authorities advised commuters to confirm the latest road status before undertaking journeys, particularly on high-altitude routes, as movement remains subject to weather and road conditions. (KNS)
