Srinagar, Jan 7 (KNS): Chief Minster Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was Thursday evening at 6:40 laid to rest at Dara Shikho Garden in Bijbehara town in Anantnag district.
The funeral payers of chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed were held at Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here today evening.
The funeral prayers (Nimazi Jinaza) were led by PDP senior leader Naeem Akhtar.
Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, G A Mir and Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, former chief minister Omar Abdullah, senior PDP leader Tariq Hameed Karra, senior leaders Ali Mohammad Sagar, PDF leader Hakim Yasin, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Sajjad Gani Lone, Altaf Bukhari, Basharat Bukhari and all the PDP ministers were present during the funeral.
Congress leader G N Monga, PDP General Secretary Nizam-u-Din Bhat, PDP minister Ashraf Mir also participated in the funeral.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh and minister in PMO’s office Dr Jitendra Singh was also present during the funeral.
According to KNS correspondent Tasaduq Rashid, in Bijbehara, DGP K Rajendra, Chief Secretary B R Sharma, Health Minister Lal Singh, PHE Minister Sukhnandan Kumar, JK Congress Chief G A Mir, Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu, Principal Secretary to CM, B B Vyas

Top officials of civil and police administration were also present. Police presented a Guard of Honour to after the funeral prayers.
After the funeral prayers, the body of the chief minister was taken in a procession to his ancestral home town, Bijbehara in Anantnag district, where another funeral prayer will be held at Dara Shikho Garden in the town. His body will be laid to rest in the garden.
Mufti, 79, passed away at AIIMS in New Delhi this morning after two-week illness.
Sayeed, detected with sepsis, decreased blood count and pneumonia, was admitted to AIIMS on December 24, with complaints of neck pain and fever. He had remained in the intensive care unit of AIIMS since then.
Earlier, the body of Mufti was flown to Srinagar from Palam Airport in New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other dignitaries were also present.
People, including young and old, in Bijbehara attended last rites and participated in the funeral procession in the town. (KNS)
