Srinagar, Feb 04 (KNS) : Mufti Nasir ul Islam, Mufti-e-Azam Jammu & Kashmir, has condemned the restrictions imposed on the observance of Shab-e-Barat, the closure of Jama Masjid Srinagar, and the house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on this auspicious occasion.
In a statement, he stated that preventing worshippers from offering prayers on a sacred night at the Valley’s central mosque, along with confining a prominent religious leader to his home, amounts to a clear violation of the religious rights of the people. Such actions, he said, deeply hurt the sentiments of Muslims and undermine the freedom to practice faith peacefully.

Mufti Nasir ul Islam emphasized that Jama Masjid has historically been a place of prayer, guidance, and spiritual gathering, and stopping congregational worship there on important religious occasions sends a disturbing message. He urged the authorities to respect religious sensitivities, lift such restrictions, and allow people to practice their faith without obstruction.
He appealed for immediate reconsideration of this approach and called for ensuring that sacred religious occasions are observed with dignity and freedom. (KNS)
