Srinagar, Apr 2 (KNS): National Conference Rajya Sabha member Mian Altaf Ahmad has written to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, flagging the "prolonged" vacancy of key positions at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, officials said on Wednesday.
In his letter to the minister, the MP expressed concern that the posts of Chairperson of the Board of Governors (BoG), Director, and Registrar have been lying vacant for over three years, hampering the functioning of the premier institute.
MP Mian Altaf emphasised that as an Institute of National Importance, NIT Srinagar plays a crucial role in providing quality education and research opportunities to students across the country.
He urged the minister to appoint the Chairperson, BoG, Director, and Registrar on a priority basis to ensure smooth functioning and facilitate the progressive development of the institute.

The MP stated that he has raised the issue with minsiter Pradhan several times in the past, but no action has been taken despite assurances.
The absence of these key positions has resulted in delays and inefficiencies in decision-making processes, affecting academic and administrative activities, the letter said accessed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
MP Altaf said prompt attention to the matter would be a significant step towards strengthening the institution and fulfilling its mandate. (KNS)
