New Delhi, Dec 9 (KNS): Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi on Tuesday released a copy of a letter written by MP Baramulla Er Rashid to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking a permanent fixation of the upper age limit for the Jammu & Kashmir Combined Competitive Examination (JKCCE) at 37 years.
In the letter, Er Rashid highlighted the distress among aspirants caused by fluctuating notifications and inconsistent interpretations regarding the maximum age limit, saying it has “caused deep anxiety among the youth of Jammu & Kashmir” and led to “avoidable misunderstandings between key constitutional authorities” in the Union Territory.
He pointed out that most states in India have more inclusive age criteria, with upper limits for PCS examinations often set at 40 years for open merit candidates, while J&K continues to restrict eligibility to 32 years.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“This disparity has created a sense of injustice among our youth, who feel they are being deprived of parity with the rest of India,” the letter said.
Er Rashid urged that fixing the upper age limit at 37 years would bring fairness and stability, prevent recurring confusion, reduce litigation, and safeguard the aspirations of candidates who have invested years in preparing for public service examinations.
He noted that such a move is reasonable given J&K’s unique circumstances, including prolonged disruptions and limited private sector opportunities.
The MP stressed that a permanent resolution would provide clarity and hope to thousands of young aspirants, ensuring parity with other states and addressing a long-standing demand of the region’s youth.(KNS)
