Monika Dhami takes charge as Principal Commissioner of Income Tax in Srinagar

 Srinagar, Jun 1 (KNS): Ms Monika Dhami, a 2001-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, assumed charge as the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax here on Monday.

 
She is now the highest-ranked Income Tax Department officer in the region covering the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, according to an official statement.
 
Prior to this posting, Dhami has held key roles including a policy-making position at the Department of Economic Affairs, corporate and salary assessment charges, and a tenure as lead trainer for new civil servants at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), the apex training academy for civil services.
 
The government has strategically posted her in Srinagar to work closely with taxpayers, tax professionals, and trade bodies to further strengthen a fair, transparent and taxpayer-friendly tax administration in the region, the statement added.
 
In her first interaction with officers and officials, Dhami underscored the importance of technology-driven enforcement, faceless processes, and ease of compliance.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelShe reiterated the department’s focus on voluntary compliance as the cornerstone of the tax system and encouraged staff to strengthen trust and cooperation between taxpayers and the department.
 
She emphasised that special attention will be given to grievance redressal, taxpayer outreach programmes, awareness initiatives and stakeholder consultations to address public concerns expeditiously.
 
An alumna of the London School of Economics with a Master’s degree in Public Policy, Dhami has been a votary for preservation of local cultural spaces. Having served as Additional Director General (Training) at the Directorate of Training in New Delhi, she also promised to focus on skill development of staff to enable their professional and personal growth in the dynamic public service environment.(KNS)
