Srinagar, Aug 4 (KNS): Hitting out at both state and central governments for playing politics over AIIMS issue, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President and MLC G N Monga Tuesday demanded that IIT, IIM and IIMC should be established in Kashmir region.
“Congress party’s stand is clear. We support the demand of AIIMS for Jammu, but at the same time we demand that Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) be established in Kashmir for equitable progress in the State,” Monga said in a statement to KNS.
He also asked the government to make it clear where and when it is establishing the AIIMS in Kashmir. “Till now the announcement of AIIMS in Kashmir is limited to papers only. Government should without any further delay notify where the premier health institute is being established and what progress has been made,” he demanded.
Accusing coalition partners PDP and BJP of playing communal and regional card over the AIIMS issue, he said that divisive politics was most dangerous for the sensitive State like J&K.
“Congress always ensured equitable development of three regions to foster harmony between people of regions and different faiths.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelCongress ensured two central universities one each for Kashmir and Jammu. But the BJP-PDP have failed to respect the aspirations and needs of two regions on issue of AIIMS and other premier institutions leading to unrest and resentment among people,” the JKPCC Vice President added.
While asking both state and central governments to resolve the issue at the earliest, he said, “Exploiting the regional and religious sentiments of the people for the lust of power is unfortunate. It is high time that both the governments clear their stand on the issue of AIIMS and other premier institutions. The issue should not be allowed to flare up.”
“There is urgent need to maintain regional balance and work on equitable infrastructure development and employment generation in both the regions,” he said.
Charging that both PDP and BJP have betrayed the people of the state after coming to power, Monga said, “Both the parties after coming to power have dumped the issues of people. From flood victims to unemployed youth, government employees to businessmen everybody is feeling disillusioned by the policies of the coalition government.”
