Jammu, Jan 18 (KNS): MLC G. N. Monga who is representing Panchayats in J&K Legislative Council strongly protested against delimitation of Panchyats in the State and termed it as a move to undermine the authority of PRIs for personal and political benefit on the PDP-BJP Coalition Govt, who have lost the ground miserably and trying to get some political mileage out of delimitation of PRIs.
According to KNS Correspondent, Mong alongwith other Members representing Panchayats in Upper House sought clarity from the Govt over delimitation of Panchayats, which is absolutely unfair, for the fact Panchayats should have its own Election Commission as per the Panchayati Raj Act and there is no question of interference by the Govt or Chief Electoral of the State in Panchayats.
He said Govt is deliberately trying to make Panchayats dysfunctional in order to interfere in the developmental works at grass root level to gain political mileage.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
When not satisfied with the reply from Rural Dev. Minister over this issue, Monga alongwith the other Members staged walk out against the delimitation of Panchayats and demanded withdrawal of the Ordinance. They were also supported by entire opposition, who also blamed the Govt for eroding the authority of PRIs in the State.
They demanded that Panchayts should be allowed to function independently, without any kind of interference from the Govt or any autonomous body in the State, because the autonomous bodies or Chief Electoral Office have no role in the functioning of Panchayts as per the Panchayati Raj Act. (KNS)
