Banihal, Mar 17 (KNS) ; In a move aimed at enhancing last-mile connectivity, Jammu and Kashmir MLA from Banihal, Sajjad Shaheen, on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a new steel footbridge at Shafa Pani. The bridge will connect the villages of Forwagan and Kaskoot.
Officials said the project, estimated to cost ?25.22 lakh, is being executed by the Rural Development Department (RDD) to replace a structure washed away in the 1992 floods. The new bridge is expected to restore access for approximately 10,000 residents from villages including Forwagan, Kaskoot, Zinhal, Chachal, Harbair, Wanpora, Railway Colony, and Ashar.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaheen stated that the bridge fulfills a long-standing demand and will provide crucial relief to students, patients, and daily commuters. He highlighted that the structure would also improve access to the local railway station, boosting socio-economic activity in the area.
The MLA was accompanied by Block Development Officer Banihal, Hyder Ali, and other district officials. The locals have expressed hope for the swift completion of the project. (KNS)
