Khushal Sar being cleared through Zadibal after 30 yrs

Srinagar, May 21 (KNS): Mission Ehsaas, which was launched on February 21 last year by Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) to clear Khushaal Sar and Gilsar water bodies in Srinagar‘s old city completed 15 months of its operation.

According a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS) NLCO team led by its chairman Manzoor Wangnoo today along with social activist Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat and Mushtaq Ahmad visited the site through Zadibal area, which is being cleared after more than 30 years.

Manzoor Wangnoo congratulated local population and stakeholders of Zoonima , Gilsar, Khushal Sar and Zadibal, Vichar Nag areas with whose cooperation all this was possible.

"Large area of Khushal Sar around Zadibal has been filled with muck, silt and plastic trash. There is a land mafia working in the area. After we began the work, locals started coming forward. They fully cooperated with us. Several drains from adjoining areas empty into Gilsar. This liquid waste with a lot of silt and filth is also destroying the water-body.”

He said that for the last 15 months they have done a lot of work and government institutions like Divisional Commissioners office, SMC and LCMA are cooperating with them.

“I am sure we will clear both Gilsar and Khushal Sar by this year. I am thankful to Divisional Commissioner PK Pole, stakeholders and team NLCO with whose cooperation all this has been possible,” he added. (KNS)
