Mirwaiz urges govt to let him continue his religious work unhindered

Srinagar, Mar 29 (KNS): Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged the government to desist from pursuing cycle of unexplained detentions and allow him free access to Masjids to continue his religious work.

According to a statment issued to KNS reads that addressing people in Jama masjid he lamented that even in the holy month of Ramadan which is a time of spiritual significance, he is not allowed access to Masjids and is repeatedly put under house arrest.

He said that yesterday as per the announced program he was not allowed to address a religious gathering at Aali masjid.

He said that such actions also curtail the fundamental freedom of expression and religion and asked the authorities to desist from pursuing this cycle of unexplained detentions, and allow him to continue his religious work.

He emphasized the virtues and significance of Ramadan as highlighted in the Quran and Hadith, underscoring the dual nature of devotion during this holy month.

He stressed that Ramadan calls for not only spiritual worship but also to extend financial support to those in need through Zakat and donations.

He said that Darul Khair Mirwaiz Manzil has been a beacon of support for the less fortunate, including the impoverished, the ill, and those affected by disasters, for several decades.

He expressed hope that during Ramadan, the community would bolster the institution's efforts by contributing Zakat and charity, thereby honoring both the spiritual and financial aspects of worship.

He also announced that a special majlis would take place at Dastgir Sahib Sarai Bala on the 21st of Ramadan from Zuhr to Asr prayers, marking the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali.

He also expressed sorrow over the tragic loss of 10 lives in a road accident in Ramban and conveyed his sympathies to bereaved families. (KNS)
