Mirwaiz Umar Farooq's continuous house detention "matter of concern": Anjuman Auqaf Jamia

Srinagar, Dec 2 (KNS) : Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar on Friday said that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq , Mirwaiz of J&K and president of the Anjuman , completed 40 consecutive months and 171 consecutive friday prayers under house detention.


The Anjuman in a statement issued to KNS, raised a strong voice of protest over the fact that Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir has been kept under illegal and arbitrary house arrest by the authorities, due to which he is unable to continue his religious mission of waz o tableeg that the institutions of Mirwaiz enjoins upon him as Mirwaiz of Kashmir, which is extremely condemnable and a matter of serious concern.

This is extreme violation of the basic human rights of the Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir and sheer interference in religious affairs of muslims of J&K Anjuman said.

Today before the commencement of Friday prayers in Jama Masjid Srinagar, Peerzada Ghulam Nabi presenting the data said that Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir has been barred from offering prayers for 171 consecutive Fridays due to which the centuries-old pulpit of the historic grand mosque, from where the calls of Qaal Allah Wa Qaala Rasool (SAW) used to reverberate and the social reform activities used to be discussed and formulated, has fallen silent all these years due to his absence . He said that people coming from the nook and corner of the valley to the Jama Masjid for decades to listen to the sermon by their beloved religious leader return disappointed and with a heavy heart. Auqaf member said that the people of jammu and kashmir have deep love and respect for the Mirwaiz , and stand with their religious leader in these testing times , which he is enduring with exemplary patience , dignity and fortitude, the path shown by our beloved prophet SAW himself.

The namazis at the mosque protested the mirwaiz’s detention , and prayed for his good health and release.(KNS)
