SRINAGAR, Mar 12 (KNS) ; Thousands of devout Muslims are set to throng the historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar on Friday to observe Jumat-ul-Vida, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramzan, with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, scheduled to deliver the customary sermon.
This is the first time in several years that the Mirwaiz will lead the prayers at the downtown mosque on such a significant Islamic occasion without restrictions, marking a continuation of the gradual return to normalcy at the city’s most prominent religious centre.
According to a spokesperson for the Mirwaiz, the spiritual leader will commence his address to the faithful at 12:45 PM, followed by the congregation offering the Friday prayers at 2:20 PM.

The Jama Masjid management has urged devotees, particularly those arriving later, to carry their own prayer mats in consideration of the prevailing weather conditions and the large expected gathering.
In his message, the Mirwaiz urged the gathering to pray for peace, mercy, and the acceptance of prayers and fasts. The Jumat-ul-Vida holds profound significance as it marks the culmination of the fasting month, and the gathering at the historic Jama Masjid is seen as a major religious event in the valley. (KNS)
