Mirwaiz terms killings, oppression in JK as worst form of State terrorism

Demands immediate release of all political prisoners

Srinagar, Feb 24 (KNS): Terming the killings and oppression in Jammu Kashmir for the past 30 years in general and more than six months in particular, and the arrest spree of youth across north to south Kashmir, and their detentions in far-flung jails as worst form of state terrorism and political vendetta exhibited by the ruling regime, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said hundreds of innocent youth had been detained in frivolous cases and were languishing in jails and police stations all around the valley.
According to a statement issued to KNS, addressing a massive Friday congregation at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid, the Hurriyat (M) Chairman said among these political prisoners, a large number were elderly and ailing persons while many were juveniles and by detaining them in jails far away from their home, these prisoners were going through both physical as well as mental torture.
Calling for putting an end to this politics of vendetta, Mirwaiz demanded immediate release of all these political prisoners.
Mirwaiz said the way government forces targeted and battered people in Shopian a few days back, broke the window panes, and rouged up residents after forcing their way into their homes and fired pellets and bullets on the people is condemnable and unacceptable.
Referring to the guest control decision of the Govt. Mirwaiz said that it is sad that we need external controls rather than exercising self-control and restraint on our desire for extravaganza and splurge, especially when our deen (Islam) and its teachings which are the guiding principle of our life clearly define how we should live, simply and keeping the underprivileged in mind.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Mirwaiz said that in the context of our political struggle and the pain and suffering we are witnessing and the immense sacrifices that we as a nation are offering, we should bring about fundamental changes in our attitudes and outlook rather than external enforcement.
Meanwhile, after the Friday congregational prayers, as per the programme of the joint resistance leadership many Hurriyat leaders and workers participated in a peaceful protest demonstration outside Jamia Masjid Srinagar against the failure of the Govt in providing justice to the victims of Kunan Poshpora. They also demanded immediate release of all political prisoners held in jails across Jammu Kashmir and outside.
Senior Hurriyat leaders Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, Advocate Sheikh Yasir Dalaal, Farooq Ahmad Saudagar and a large number of protestors participated in the peaceful protest demonstrations and condemned the gross human rights violations carried at the government level.
They said despite the passage of 26 long years, the accused Indian forces had not been punished for the mass rape of the Kunan Poshpora women or even made to stand trial in the court of law, which was highly condemnable and a travesty of justice. (KNS)
