Srinagar, Jun 03 (KNS): Ahead of a joint protest call given by both the factions of Hurriyat and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq was Friday placed under house arrest.
Eye-witnesses told KNS that forces a heavy contingent of forces have been deployed outside the historical Jamia Masjid to prevent any possible protests.
Reports said that raids have been carried out on the houses of various other Hurriyat leaders.
Pertinently, Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani remained under house arrest from past several weeks while JKLF Chief Yasin Malik is lodged in Srinagar’s Central Jail.
Jammu Kashmir National Front chairman and Hurriyat (G) leader, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, continued to remain under house arrest since May 20 while JKLF (H) chairman, Javid Ahmad Mir was placed under house arrest on Thursday evening.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chairman and Hurriyat (G) leader, Shabir Ahmad Shah also remained under house from past several weeks.
The leaders had jointly called for protest today and waving of black flags at district and Tehsil headquarters to protest against the government plans to build separate townships for migrant Pandits and a colony for ex-servicemen.
They termed the moves as anti-Kashmir and threatened of dire consequences in case government implements such plans. (KNS)
