Srinagar, Jun 30 (KNS): Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was Friday placed under house detention while the authorities barred people today to offer mandatory Friday congregational prayers in the historic Jamia Masjid.
The Mirwaiz was put under house arrest to prevent him from delivering sermons at Jamia Masjid and to foil his participation in the protest after Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid.
Hurriyt (M) leaders said that a large number of forces arrived at Mirwaiz’s Nigeen residence and informed him that he cannot move out till further orders.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Meanwhile, the Jamia Masjid where Mirwaiz was schedule to deliver sermons was closed today as precautionary measures.
Pertinently, authorities had also disallowed people to offer Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid on the last Friday of Ramadhan (Jumma-tul-Vida) and the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers as precautionary measures. (KNS)
