Srinagar, Jul 07 (KNS): Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while paying tributes to the sklain Hizb commander Burhan Wani, his two associates and to over 120 civilians killed by the armed forces last year, said the sacrifices rendered by them are indelibly impressed on our collective memory.
According to the statement issued to KNS, Mirtwaiz said that they once again forcefully brought to fore the urgent need to resolve the Kashmir dispute, the cause of great suffering and grief to the people of Kashmir for the past seven decades.
Mirwaiz said the policy of killing and ‘oppression’ as a state response to a people's legitimate and peaceful political struggle has got standardized and is justified by the state as a means of maintaining its control over the land and its people.
He said as a reaction to this military approach to ruthlessly suppress a people's just demand ,some among our youth are driven to resort to armed resistance to challenge this approach and seek a solution.
Referring to the situation in the Valley, Mirwaiz said arbitrary arrests and detention of youth, raids on people's homes heavy deployment of forces across the length and breadth of the valley repeated curfews and restrictions in downtown areas of Srinagar city ,repeated bans on commutation channels through phone and internet blockades suspension of inter-district rail and road services arbitrary frisking and checking of commuters on roads and highways and harassment and humiliation of people have become the order of the day particularly in the Kashmir region to "contain" the situation and maintain the status quo over it. While absolute rights and no accountability has been given to the Indian forces operating here, Kashmiris are stripped of all their rights and liberties like serfs in their own land. And the local collaborators operating here to strength this subjugation are his masters voice, busy in implementing the agenda of integration with the Indian union and no regard for their obligation of safeguarding the special status of the state.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Mirwaiz said the threatening and senseless comments of BJP members that they will turn Kashmir into a graveyard for those seeking Azadi and on the GST, speak of their arrogance and ignorance with regard to the people of Kashmir and the Kashmir conflict.
Mirwaiz said for last three consecutive Fridays including "jumma tul vida" Jamia Masjid Srinagar has been locked down and the entire area is put under strict curfew. Commenting on this he said, such is the apathy and indifference of this anti Kashmir state towards the religious rights of the Muslims who are the in the majority, that a huge population of Muslims almost each Friday is disallowed from offering obligatory Friday prayers. It has almost become a norm with the rulers to keep the central Jamia Masjid and other mosques locked on Fridays and bar people from praying there.
Mirwaiz said, “While I have not been allowed to pray or deliver waaz at Jamia Masjid since jumma-tul-vida and have been under continuous house arrest, other resistance leadership our aides activists and workers are also under house arrest, in detention centers and jails or on the run. Frequent raids are conducted on the homes of our activists; our relatives are also not spared the wrath of the ruling regime and are being harassed and intimidated.”
Mirwaiz said this repression on people of Kashmir may give electoral dividends to RSS / BJP in India but it is a dangerous ploy and will have extremely negative effects for the whole region in the long run.
Mirwaiz said wisdom and statesman ship demand that leadership in India show maturity and deal with the conflict in and on Kashmir on the basis of its historical background and the extremely grave situation on ground and work towards a peaceful solution by engaging with Pakistan and the with the aspirations and will of people of Jammu and Kashmir, so that no more Kashmiri lives are lost and people of the region are rid of hatred and animosity for one another and lasting peace returns.
