Srinagar, Nov 23 (KNS): Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday welcomed the unanimous resolution passed by a committee of the United Nations General Assembly, in the 193-member Assembly reaffirming the universal realization of the right to self determination of Kashmiris being a fundamental condition for the effective guarantee and observance of human rights.
Mirwaiz, who is under continuous house arrest at his Nigeen residence commended the Government of Pakistan for its persistent diplomatic efforts in introducing the resolution which was co-sponsored by 72 countries.
Expressing concern over the silence exhibited by the international community on Kashmir dispute, he said resolving Kashmir was the legal, constitutional and moral responsibility of the United Nations and that peace and progress would elude South Asia until the final settlement of Kashmir dispute and people of Kashmir would continue to suffer.
Commenting on the firing and shelling along various sectors of the ceasefire line and International Border (IB) Hurriyat (M) Chairman said the confrontation between the neighbouring countries - India and Pakistan - was increasing with every day and the flare-up was on the one hand resulting in loss of precious lives and destruction of properties and on the other pushing the two countries toward a dangerous and destructive war which would have serious ramifications for entire region.
Terming the brutal killing of 11 civilians and gruesome injuries to half-a-dozen persons travelling in a passenger bus in Neelam valley and attack on a rescue ambulance by the Indian Army as a barbaric shameful and deplorable act of cowardice, Mirwaiz expressed his sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He said that the lingering Kashmir dispute was the result of India’s obduracy and stubbornness which fails to understand that human will cannot be suppressed by military might and oppression.
Meanwhile, on the directions of the Hurriyat (M) Chairman, a high-level Hurriyat delegation led by Hurriyat (M) leader Muhammad Musadiq Adil and comprising of Peer Ghulam Nabi, Abdul Majeed Wani and Jaffar Kashmiri and others visited Kakapora Pulwama and expressed sympathy and solidarity with the parents and family members of martyred youth, Engineer Rayees Ahmad Dar.
Paying glowing tributes to the Rayees, who was martyred during a gunfight with government forces, the Hurriyat (M) delegation said the sacrifices of these martyrs was the foundation of Kashmir’s resistance struggle and that the resistance leadership and freedom-loving people were duty bound to take the movement towards its goal
Hurriyat (M) spokesman also condemned the brutal force used by the government forces on a girl child and many other unarmed civilians in Nawa Kadal area of Shehar-e-Khas and night raids in Zaingeer Sopore and other areas and denounced the government forces for carrying arbitrary arrests of the people during these raids.
