Srinagar, Jul 7 (KNS): Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday claimed that he was placed under house arrest and prevented from attending a youth event at Eidgah in downtown Srinagar.
In a post on X, the Mirwaiz said he was scheduled to attend a programme organised by local youth but was not allowed to leave his residence.
"Again put under house arrest today and prevented from attending an event organised by the youth of downtown Srinagar at Eidgah. Regret that the opportunity to engage with the youth was obstructed," he said.
The Mirwaiz also expressed concern over an upcoming Bollywood film that, according to a report published by Al Jazeera, allegedly portrays the use of pellet guns in Kashmir as causing "limited damage" and makes light of the suffering of pellet victims.

He said such a portrayal was insensitive to the plight of thousands of people who continue to live with injuries caused by pellet guns.
"For thousands of victims living and suffering the consequences of pellets lodged in their eyes and limbs, this is akin to rubbing salt in their wounds. These victims, mostly young, need empathy, care and justice, not propaganda," he said.
The Mirwaiz urged the filmmakers to reconsider what he termed an insensitive depiction and refrain from releasing the film in its present form.(KNS).
