Mirwaiz can’t attend OIC meeting due to impounding of travel documents: Hurriyat (M)

Sends letter to Iyad Madani, thanks him for invitation

Srinagar, Sep 19 (KNS): Hurriyat (M) spokesman Monday said that in response to the invite send to the party chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to attend the OIC foreign ministers and Kashmir contact group meet in New York during the 71st annual UN session, a letter was send to the Secretary General of OIC Iyad bin Amin Madani .
While thanking the OIC for the invitation it was mentioned that due to the continues detention of the Mirwaiz for the last 23 days at a sub jail and the impounding of his travel documents for the past four years he would not be able to attend the meetings, which he regrets. The letter in detail mentions the current grim situation in the valley and the unrelenting and unprecedented violence wrecked upon the subjected people of Kashmir by the Indian forces.
The letter appreciates the OIC for its principled and ethical response to the fast deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Kashmir and thanked them for their concern and support. The letter mentioned that Kashmir is neither an ‘internal matter” of India nor a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan. This conflict it said has simmered since 1947 due to the non-implementation of UN Security Council and UNCIP Resolutions. The conflict cannot be resolved without determining the wishes of the Kashmiri people, through a civilized and democratic method such as the referendum promised by UN Security Council resolutions in 1948.
The letter further states that Hurriyat (M) believes that an alternative path to work out the modalities of a resolution is through dialogue. “It fervently appeal to the OIC to support this demand and urges the UN and the international community to prevail upon India to enable a genuine unconditional and transparent dialogue with all stakeholders i.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channele. The immediate steps in this regard are:

- Remove arbitrary and draconian laws and conditions such as the Disturbed Areas act , public safety Act and others .There should be noreprisal or intimidation against the people of Kashmir as they discussand express their political aspirations in public spaces
- The use of firearms and pellet guns on unarmed protesters should be stopped.
- To start demilitarizing from all of Kashmir and revoke impunity laws such as the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.(AFSPA
- Allow an OHCHR fact-finding mission to assess the situation in Kashmir
-Most importantly Recognize the right of Kashmiri people to determine their own political future.
Meanwhile condemning the imposition of strict restrictions, curbs, curfew and undeclared curfew across Kashmir to sabotage the ‘Baramulla March’ and ‘Pulwama March’, the APHC spokesman said during the night raids, the government forces had arrested activists of the APHC including Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) General Secretary, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, other workers and youth Which is condemnable and shows their frustration
The spokesman also condemned the raids carried out by the government forces in Ganderbal Shopian Bandipura and many parts of Srinagar and beating up people to terrorize them and create fear among them. (KNS)
