Settle affected families before establishing AIIMS

Srinagar, Aug 22 (KNS): Senior National Conference leader and MLA Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmed has expressed anguish over the reports that over 200 nomad families living in Abdullah Basti along the Jammu-Pathankot highway have been asked to vacate the land to pave the way for establishment of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Vijaypur in Samba district.
In a statement to KNS, Mian Altaf said that it is surprising and unfortunate that the PDP-BJP government is forcing over two hundred nomad families living there for past twenty years to go homeless by forcibly asking them to vacate the land without any prior information, rehabilitation plan and proper consultation.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“if there is so much land available to the government at the area, the government should have taken it under consideration and have selected some adjacent area so that the residential areas are not affected” the statement said.
“Nobody is against the establishment of the AIIMS but it should not be at the cost of poor people who have no means to settle anywhere else or to live” Mian Altaf added.
Mian Altaf asked the government to provide a suitable compensation to the affected families and make a proper rehabilitation plan for them. (KNS)
