MFA Hails Creation of 17 Professor, 73 Associate Professor Posts at GMC Srinagar

 JAMMU, March 26 (KNS) ; In a significant development aimed at bolstering medical education and healthcare infrastructure in the Union Territory, the Medical Faculty Association (MFA) of Government Medical College (GMC) and Government Dental College (GDC) Srinagar has expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor’s administration and the State Cabinet for approving the creation of 90 faculty posts.

 
According to an official statement issued by the MFA on Thursday, the administration has sanctioned 17 posts of Professor and 73 posts of Associate Professor for GMC Srinagar. The decision was formalized through Government Order No. 188 JK(HME) of 2026, dated March 25, 2026.
 
The association termed the development a "significant step" that will not only facilitate career progression for medical faculty but also enhance the overall quality of medical education and patient care services in the region.
 
In its statement, the MFA specifically acknowledged the "tireless efforts" of the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir and the Administrative Secretary of the Health and Medical Education (HME) department.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe association noted that their unwavering support was instrumental in implementing the second phase of the three-tier system in both parent medical colleges of the Union Territory.
 
The MFA further expressed hope that the administration would expedite the implementation of the career-based promotion scheme in medical and dental colleges across the UT. The association highlighted that addressing the long-standing issue of stagnation among medical faculty is crucial for fostering motivation and zeal in academics, research, and patient care.
 
The development has been widely welcomed by the medical fraternity, which views the creation of these posts as a major step toward strengthening tertiary healthcare delivery in the valley. (KNS)
