Mehboob Cultural Society B'la Observed International Mother Language Day

 

BARAMULLA, FEBRUARY 21: (KNS) As part of international mother language day, Mehboob Cultural Society Baramulla and DayarI Adab Delina today organised a programme at Government Girls Higher Secondary School,  Baramulla to highlight the need to promote and preserve vernacular languages.

In the programme, noted writer Khaliq Parvaiz was the chief guest and Ex Director General Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar Dr Rafiq Masoodi as the guest of honour. 

On the occasion, an array of cultural programmes were organised during which  the importance of promoting and preserving the mother language was highlighted. Also a special musharia was organised during which various noted Kashmiri poets read their literary works which evoked quite applause from the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest highlighted the importance of mother tongue, especially Kashmiri, Gojri, Pahadi, Balti, Dard Sheena and other languages spoken in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that preservation of mother language is imperative for preservation of culture and ethnicity of a particular area. He said parents should ensure that they converse with their children in their mother tongue more than any other language from an early age.

Among others, renowned scholars, poets, columnists, students and other concerned stakeholders participated in the programme.(KNS)
