Mehboob Beg welcome govt's decision of withdrawing three farm laws

Appeals PM to apply same yard stick to Kashmir to restore the pre-August 05, 2019 status

Appeals PM to apply same yard stick to Kashmir to restore the pre-August 05, 2019 status

Srinagar, Nov 19 (KNS): Former Parliamentarian and PDP’s organizational General Secretary, Dr Mehboob Beg has welcomed the government’s decision to repeal the controversial farm laws and this goes on to show and buttress that the people are supreme and that the strongest of governments must bow down to the legitimate wishes of the people it governs.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Beg said that the very essence of a vibrant democracy is that the people are supreme and that their wishes must prevail.

"The Prime Minister has accepted that his government was not successful in putting across their point of view before the stakeholders and despite the government being convinced of the benefits of these farm laws, they had no option but to bow down to the wishes of the people and the farmers in particular. I appeal to the government and to Prime Minister Modi to adopt a similar view towards Kashmir and listen to what the people desire," he said.

Beg said that it is the perfect time for the Prime Minister to now address the ‘dilli ki doori aur dil ki doori’ that he himself highlighted during his interaction with representatives of various parties including the PDP.

"The decision taken today is at the heart of what the PDP has always been advocating and it is not too late to take that decision. I welcome the decision to repeal the farm laws as all stakeholders disapproved of it and appeal to the Prime Minister to apply the same yard stick to Kashmir and restore the pre-5th August, 2019 status in letter and spirit."

He also said that the Prime minister does not have to look far and must look at his own decisions and words to do what is needed to take back the decision of revocation of article 370 by recognizing the will of the people like he did today and the same will also help the Prime Minister and his government to address the ‘dilli ki doori aur dil ki doori’.
