Srinagar, Sep 24 (KNS): Along with the rest of the Jammu and Kashmir, the 25 Days long Measles – Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign to achieve 100 Percent targets was launched in North Kashmir’s Kupwara District today.
Launching the campaign, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara Khalid Jehangir urged the State Health Department officials to ensure 100 percent achievement and requested all sections of people to help the Medical Department attain full coverage of the vaccination.
The DC lauded the efforts of teachers and health officials in creating the awareness among the masses regarding the harmful effects of fatal Meseals and Rubella diseases. The DC said that the awareness generated enthusiasm in the parents who lined up with their children since early morning at schools for the administration of vaccines to their wards.
While referring to scientists’ report on the MR vaccine, President Doctor’s Association Kashmir, Dr Suhail Naik while talking to KNS said that the vaccine is completely safe and two fetal diseases can be prevented by a single vaccination.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“We are targeting the educational institutions and then the Anganwadi centres for the task in the first instance and will even conduct special campaign to cover the left out children if any,” CMO Kupwara informed KNS.
According to the experts, Rubella is another viral disease having similar clinical symptom like measles. It affects both children and adults and can cause disabilities in the newborn if an unprotected mother gets infected with Rubella virus during early pregnancy. The virus has the potential to cause abortion, stillbirths and severe birth defects known as ‘Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS)’, including deafness and blindness of the newborn babies.
The experts also believe that the Measles and Rubella are not only fatal for pregnant women, but also creates many complications such as blindness, mental abnormality and various cardio-vascular problems. (KNS)
