Handwara, May 13 (KNS): Residents of several villages including Audoora, Warpora, Drungsoo, Shahnagari, Katlari, check i Audoora, Umerabad Lame, Khudi, Yahama, Mankal, Lawosa, Yahama Chek, Nogam, Indardaji, Gamadar, Nogam B, Rashwari, Patwari, and others, under the Nogam fielder of JK Power Development Department, are up in arms against the new hike in electricity bills.

The Nogam fielder, which covers a distance of about 50 km and includes several Backwards ST and SC villages where 95% of the population belongs to poor households, heavily relies on labor for their livelihood. The fielder, which is managed by a 43-year-old fielder, is often hit by heavy rain or snowfall, leading to frequent power outages that last for several days.

The residents of these villages have now appealed to the Chief Engineer and Executive Engineer of JKPDD Handwara to not increase the electricity fees, citing their already precarious financial situation.

It remains to be seen how the authorities will respond to this demand, but for now, the residents of these villages are bracing themselves for yet another round of power outages and increased financial burden.(KNS)
