Massive cloudburst Hits Chositi, Kishtwar; casualties feared, rescue ops underway

Srinagar, Aug 14 (KNS): A massive cloudburst struck the Chositi area of Kishtwar on Thursday, with heavy casualties feared.

As per the reports reaching Kashmir News Service (KNS), Rescue teams have been rushed to the spot and operations are underway to locate and assist those affected.

Union Minister of State, Dr Jitendra Singh, said he spoke to Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, immediately after receiving a message from J&K Leader of Opposition and local MLA Sunil Kumar Sharma. “A massive cloudburst in Chositi area could result in substantial casualty. The administration has swung into action, rescue teams have left for the site, and arrangements for damage evaluation, rescue, and medical management are being made,” Dr Singh said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the incident. “Anguished by the cloudburst in Chositi Kishtwar. Condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the quick recovery of the injured,” he posted on X.

The LG said he has directed Civil, Police, Army, NDRF, and SDRF officials to intensify rescue and relief efforts and ensure all possible assistance to those affected.

Authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of casualties as operations continue in the remote, mountainous area.(KNS)
