Dozens erring shopkeepers booked; Over Rs. 1.0 Lac fine imposed

SRINAGAR APRIL 04:(KNS)  In order to prevent profiteering and black marketing by business establishments operating in Srinagar, the special Market Checking teams of District Administration Srinagar Monday intensified market checking across the Srinagar City to ensure all essential commodities are sold at Government approved rates with sufficient availability of consumables.

 
The drive was conducted on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad to curb the hoardings and profiteering in Srinagar markets during Holy month of Ramadan.
 
The checking squads comprising senior officials from Revenue, Police, Food Safety, SMC, FCS&CA and Legal Metrology Departments under the supervision of SDM East and SDM West conducted intensive market checking in different parts of Srinagar city and inspected various markets within their jurisdiction and booked several erring shopkeepers found failing to maintain the quality of food items, not displaying rate lists of essential commodities, selling expiry products, besides indulging in practices of illegal profiteering and sale of underweight products.
 
They also stressed on ensuring availability of essential commodities for the people in the markets.
 
A fine of about of Rs 1.0 Lacs was imposed on the erring shopkeepers and rotten vegetables and other items were destroyed on the spot.(KNS)
