Man-eater Leopard Killed In Handwara

Handwara, September 19 (KNS): A leopard suspected of being responsible for the tragic deaths of three minors in the Rajwar Handwara area of North Kashmir's Kupwara district has been neutralized by a team from the Wildlife Department on Tuesday evening in an operation carried out in Nichama Rajwar

The leopard, which had earned the notorious label of a "man-eater," had instilled fear in the community following its involvement in two fatalities and multiple injuries over the past two months.

Among the victims were Burhan Ahmad, the son of Mohammad Kamal Mir from Marchwali Nichhama, and Yasir Bashir, the son of Bashir Ahmad from Golipora Rajwar Handwara. Several others had suffered injuries due to the attacks.

The Wildlife Department had mobilized various teams and enlisted the assistance of skilled hunters to address the threat posed by this dangerous leopard.

An official from the Wildlife Department reported that after a relentless search spanning approximately 15 days and closely tracking the leopard's movements, the animal was finally eliminated on Tuesday evening.

"The leopard was spotted in the Nichama area on Tuesday evening. The Wildlife Department officials, who had been stationed in the area for the past two weeks, neutralized it," said the official. (KNS)
