Say journalist Sajad Gul habitual offender, case registered against him, is on police remand

Srinagar, Jan 08 (KNS): A man was on Saturday booked under Unlawful Activities and Prevention Act (UAPA) for indulging in anti-national activities on social media and other platforms and also stated that journalist Sajad Gul was habitual of spreading misinformation and fake narrative through different social media platforms.

According to a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), a police spokesperson said that on Thursday police Station Kothibagh reliably learnt that Muzamil Ayyub Thakur through his social media account and other platforms is indulging in the activities which are prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and unity of India.

The statement reads that, besides, he is creating fear and alarm among general masses and inciting them to commit offences which are likely to disturb the public order. 

“This apart, a proper complaint was lodged by Advocate Syed Zeeshan before Srinagar Police against Muzamil Ayyub Thakur and others. In the complaint, it is alleged by him that Muzamil Ayyub at the behest of ISI & ISPR is threatening, harassing, making criminal intimidation, besides involved in cyber crimes against the complainant,” it reads.

As per the statement, the complaint further reads that he has left no stone unturned to malign his (complainant) image and also threatened him not only in public but also on social media platforms. ”After trying to verify his whereabouts & for his safety and security, the complainant was constrained to file the complaint before the police.”

It reads that accordingly, cognizance into the matter was taken and a case FIR number 01/2022 U/S 13 UAPA, 153-A(b), 505 (1) (b) IPC has been registered and investigation has been initiated.

It also reads that similarly, regarding Sajad Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Shahgund Hajin, so called journalist, it is clarified that he operates a Twitter account by the name of Sajad Gull and is always propagating against the government.

He uploads tweets not based on facts in order to provoke the people against the government and to spread animosity, ill-will among the people and against the Nation.”

It reads that during the encroachment drive carried out by Revenue Department last year, in his native village he instigated locals against the drive as a result of which officials were restrained in discharging their legitimate official duties. 

“Accordingly, a case FIR No.12/2021 U/S 147,447,336, 353/IPC was registered against him and after producing charge-sheet the case is subjudice in the Hon'ble court of JMIC Sumbal.”

The statement reads that he was also involved in spreading disinformation campaign through fake tweets and narratives regarding recent anti-militant operation in Gundjahangeer in which one local militant Imtiyaz Ahmad was eliminated, thereby trying to provoke the locals against the Army and Police.

“In this regard, a case FIR no.79/2021 U/S 120B,153B,505/IPC stands registered against him which is under investigation.”

It reads that he also uploaded objectionable videos with anti-national slogans raised by some women folk on the day when most wanted militant Saleem Parray was eliminated in Shalimar Srinagar. 

“Therefore, he under the garb of being a journalist is habitual of spreading disinformation and false narratives through different social media platforms in order to create ill-will against the government by provoking general masses to resort to violence and disturb public peace and tranquillity.”

It further reads that moreover, his overall activities are prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and unity of India and accordingly, a case has been registered against him in which he has been arrested and is on Police remand. (KNS)
