Man arrested with illegal minor forest produce in Ganderbal: Police

Ganderbal, Oct 01 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to foiled a smuggling bid of minor forest produce (MFP)?in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS) a spokesperson said that on the directions of Superintendent of Police Ganderbal, Nikhil Borkar, a naka was laid by Police party of Police Station Gund at Surfraw, which was headed by SHO Police Station Gund, SI Abdul Rashid under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Yasir Qadri.

“During vehicle checking,  a huge quantity of 450 kgs of Minor Forest Produce including Kuth (costus), Podophyllum and Picrorhiza were recovered from the possession of one person namely Asif Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad of Surfraw, Gund,” reads the statement.

It reads that the illigal forest produce was being ferried by the accused in his Maruti van bearing registration number JK02 AN-3855 which was also seized on the spot.

“In this regard a case FIR number 42/2021 under sections 379 IPC, 26 Forest Act has been registered in Police Station Gund and investigation has been taken up,” it reads. (KNS)
