Jammu, June 27 (KNS): The Jammu Police on Sunday claimed to have averted a major militant attack after recovering an improvised explosive device (IED) from a crowded area in Jammu district barely moments after two low-intensity blasts took place near the Jammu Air Force Station.

 

Official sources told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the IED weighing around 5-6 kgs was recovered by Jammu police, which was to be planted at some crowded place to trigger a major militant strike.

 

They said that the suspect has been picked and was being questioned and more suspects are likely to be picked up in this regard. 

 

Earlier, two low-intensity blasts were reported in the technical area of Jammu Air Force Station, putting security forces into a tizzy.

 

Meanwhile, a senior official said that there was possibility of the use of a drone, which carried a payload in both the blasts at Jammu airfield suspected to drop explosive material. 

 

In a similar incident earlier today, the police arrested one militant from Narwal area and seized five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from his possession.

 

The official said that police was also investigating two low-intensity blasts that took place earlier in the day in the technical area of Jammu Air Force Station. 

 

He said that an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) has already been registered in this regard.

 

Meanwhile, sources said that two drones were used to carry out the attack and the possible target was the aircraft parked in the dispersal area, however, no major damage has been reported from the incident. 

 

They said that two personnel suffered minor injuries. (KNS)
