Maiden J&K Fingerprint Bureau magazine released

 Jammu, Feb 16 (KNS) : The first edition of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Fingerprint Bureau’s magazine, encompassing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines for investigating officers, was released here on Monday by Sujit Kumar, Inspector General of Police (Crime Branch).

 
The publication was unveiled at a function held at the Crime Branch headquarters in Jammu in the presence of senior officers. The event was organised under the supervision of Senior/ Superintendent of Police, Fingerprint Bureau, Mohd Yousuf, and was attended by the Director Prosecution and SSPs of the Crime Branch from Jammu and Kashmir.
 
According to officials, the magazine serves as a professional reference document for field staff and investigators to enhance the quality of probes and improve conviction rates in compliance with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines.
 
The booklet details SOPs covering various stages of fingerprint examination — from lifting chance prints at crime scenes to uploading data to the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS).Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIt also includes guidelines on the implementation of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network-based Measurement Collection Unit developed by the National Crime Records Bureau.
 
Addressing the gathering, IGP Crime Sujit Kumar stressed strict adherence to SOPs relating to NAFIS, Measurement Collection Units and Fingerprint Bureau operations to ensure accuracy, transparency and efficiency in investigations.
 
He said scientific evidence and digital fingerprint identification play a key role in strengthening criminal investigations, enhancing conviction rates and facilitating inter-state crime tracking.
 
Officials said the publication outlines updated protocols on crime scene management, fingerprint collection standards and coordination with national databases.
 
The Jammu and Kashmir Police reiterated its commitment to modernisation, capacity building and adoption of technology-driven investigation practices in line with MHA guidelines, they added. (KNS)
