Lt Governor inaugurates 5,000-meal facility for school children in Katra

Jammu, May 21 (KNS) : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a centralised mid-day meal kitchen of the Akshaya Patra Foundation in Katra, a facility that will provide 5,000 nutritious meals daily to school children in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Sinha called for stronger collaboration between the government and social organisations to empower the younger generation. “We must ensure that school children receive balanced, nourishing meals. Every child deserves access to healthy food and we need to make sure no child is left behind,” the Lt Governor said.

Reflecting on the idea of legacy in ordinary life, Sinha said it rests on three questions — what are we creating, what are we preserving, and what will we hand over to future generations. “We must add another question to that list: what are we feeding our children?” he said, asserting that the nutrition of the young generation will shape the country’s future.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The Lt Governor further observed that a hungry child cannot learn, and a school that cannot feed its children cannot honestly create equal opportunities for progress. He said decades of global research have shown that nutrition and education rest on the same foundation. “Children who eat balanced, nutritious meals concentrate better, retain information more effectively, and participate more actively in class,” he added.

Sinha also mentioned upcoming Akshaya Patra projects in the Union Territory, including a kitchen facility in Jammu. He lauded the NGO’s selfless service, noting that it serves over 20 lakh children across 16 states and three UTs.

Later, the Lt Governor served meals to school students. MLAs Baldev Raj Sharma and Kuldeep Raj Dubey, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, and other senior officials attended the ceremony. (KNS)
